ONSHORE WIND ENERGY DEVELOPMENT
Onshore wind farm development in France is the outcome of:
- joint local authorities' schemes (producing a "ZDE" wind energy development zone dossier), together with
- a private industrial venture (planning permission application lodged by a developer).
- pre-feasibility study during which we explore wind conditions at the site concerned in order to determine its energy potential and draw up a pre-diagnosis stating the area's technical and environmental strengths and needs. This enables us to fine-tune the number, positioning, height and choice (make and model) of wind generators so that we can install the most suitable turbines for the site;
- feasibility study, comprising numerous initial studies and assessments, compliance requirements, land rights clearances… ;
- drawing up a micrositing plan: successful micrositing takes into account the needs of the site's neighbours, the local community, the landscape and the countryside and wildlife, whilst at the same time ensuring efficient electricity production;
- signing of land lease agreements,
- drawing up and lodging the planning permission application: the impact assessment, which is the cornerstone of the planning permission dossier, acts as a decision-making aid. It brings together the aspects of wind energy, land development and natural and human environmental conservation within a zone that has been studied and analysed.
The next phase after acquisition of planning permission, issued by the State, is the wind farm construction phase, after which the farm goes into operation. Several years' worked are rewarded with clean electricity. A step forward in the sustainable, responsible management of our future!
